Are you talking to yourself like you’d talk to a trusted friend?
Can you believe we have lived a year in this pandemic? So surreal isn’t it? I have been reflecting so much lately on the COVID-19 virus, the impact on livelihoods, the elderly, the immune compromised, those virtual schooling, the loss of travel, and depending on where you live, the cancellations of many other events we have come to rely on and enjoy.
Are you familiar with Zig Ziglar? He is one of my favorite Motivational Speakers though he has passed away. My husband and I (my boyfriend at the time) used to listen to cassette tapes of his inspirational trainings all the time on our trips to the cottage when we were in our 20’s. “Don’t let someone who gave up on their dreams talk you out of going after yours.”… One of my favorites to this day.
If Zig Ziglar were still alive, what would he say during these times? How would he be living?
“Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.” Zig Ziglar
I think this quote of his sums it up perfectly. But what do you think he is really saying?
· Expect the best — I believe this is 100% about your mindset and your beliefs. Focus on what you can do. Focus on solutions. Make sure to choose your input wisely. Use the extra time on your hands to develop yourself and your business/career. There is no downside to this. A positive mindset has many great health benefits including boosting your immune system.
· Prepare for the worst — Yes, absolutely wash your hands (seems like we should have been doing that already), wear your mask, and use wisdom in your travel and social interactions. And while you are spending more time at home, tell yourself you are going to do all of the things you have been putting off. I have cleaned out closets, my kitchen pantry, and next week we are panting the house.
· Capitalize on what comes — No one really knows what tomorrow, next week, next month, or even next year has in store for us. Have courage. I believe that goodness will prevail. Be intentional about growing yourself, and focus on serving others too. You are destined to make a difference in this world.
I have been wanting to launch my website and write a blog for years now. It took a pandemic for me to take the time to get it done. I try and focus on what I can do, not on what I can’t do.
Your mind can be your best asset-or your biggest enemy. If you believe your negative thoughts, your self-limiting beliefs will prevent you from reaching your greatest potential.
Thinking, “I can’t do this,” will keep you stuck. It’s important to recognize when your inner monologue becomes overly pessimistic. Remember that just because you think (or even read) something, doesn’t necessarily make it true.
Talk to yourself like you’d talk to a trusted friend. Speaking to yourself with a more positive tone can help you quiet those unhelpful thoughts that can threaten to drag you down.
But when all else fails… Remind yourself that courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day that says it’s ok to just try again tomorrow.
